Why I Love Karaoke: My Escape and Joy in Every Song

Before I continued my studies, karaoke was my go to escape whenever I needed to unwind of felt drained from the pressures of daily life. It was more than just a hobby, it was my personal therapy. Whether I was with friends, family, or even flying solo, karaoke became the perfect way to release stress, let loose, and most importantly, having some fun.

Singing has been part of me since I was a kid. When I was feeling down or overwhelmed, the first thing I do is turn on the music. For me singing was always a way to process my emotions and also my escape plan when life felt heavy. Whether it was joy, sadness, frustration, or excitement, there was always a song that could perfectly express what I couldn't say in words. I could pour my heart into a song, and in return, the music would lift me up.

Why "Baik-Baik Sayang" will always be my karaoke anthem. This is because since I was in middle school, there's one song that has never failed to make it to the top of my playlist:  Baik-Baik Sayang by Wali Band. No matter how I'm feeling, whether I'm happy, stressed, or down, this song is the one I turn to. It's become my go to karaoke track, the first one I'll sing without fail every time I pick up the mic.

There is something about this, it's not just a melody or a rhythm to me, but its full of memories. I've listened to it countless times, often with my family or friends, during car rides or outings. This song is one of those timeless songs that has been a soundtrack to so many precious moments in my life. I remember playing it on repeat when my family would go on road trips together, especially during the Hari Raya celebrations. We'd convoy to visit relatives, with everyone singing along to the familiar tune, the car filled with laughter and love. Those moment, where we're all together, sharing simple joy and always hold a special place in my heart.

So this is some sneak peak of me and my friend enjoying our karaoke session together. So basically we all share the same interest but have different taste in music. Whenever, we had the free time we will decide to go for our annual karaoke. There is one karaoke placed we loved to go which at Bukit Bintang called Karaoke Manekineko. For us singing is the best way to release our tension from worked place since we all in the same industries which is customer service. Dealing with peaky customer is very tiring and by going to karaoke is making us more relaxed, because we get to sing out loud and let it all out. Sometime we need to find something that making us happy and get to ignored outside world for a minute. To have interest or hobby is not a bad thing is a good thing.

I remember we spending countless hours at karaoke, singing our hearts out until we lost our voices. Those night were filled with laughter and sense of release that we couldn't find anywhere else. Karaoke was my safe space, a place where I could forget about everything that weighed me down and just enjoy the moment.
